Ontario College of Family Physicians is a voluntary, not-for-profit association which promotes the principles of family medicine in the province of Ontario through leadership, education and advocacy. The OCFP represents more than 5,900 family physicians providing care for remote, rural, suburban, urban and inner-city populations in Ontario. We are a provinvial chapter of a national organization, The College of Family Physicians of Canada, whose broad mandate includes undergraduate and postgraduate medical education, continuing medical education of family physicians and the maintenance of high standards of practice in Family Medicine. The OCFP has developed a province-wide physician education program on Complementary and Alternative Medicine. http://www.ocfp.on.ca



The Department of Family and Community Medicine at the University of Toronto is the largest Family Medicine academic centre in North America if not the world. In addition to extensive involvement in the undergraduate medical curriculum, programs include the largest Family Medicine Residency Program in North America, with over 200 residents, international fellowship programs that have trained Family Medicine faculty in 15 countries and both M.Sc and M.H.Sc. programs to prepare educators and researchers for the future. The Department's large research program comprises expertise in the development of clinical guidelines, research methodology and evaluation. The University of Toronto has recognized the need for medical students, interns, residents and practicing physicians to gain knowledge regarding Complementary and Alternative Medicine and has developed conferences and seminars in this regard. http://dfcm19.med.utoronto.ca/



The Ontario Branch of the Canadian Society of Hospital Pharmacists is a voluntary,not-for-profit organization of pharmacists who share an interest in pharmacy practice in hospitals and related healthcare settings. The role of the Society is to provide leadership in all aspects of pharmacy practice in hospitals and related healthcare settings and promote the provision of patient focused pharmacy services. We are a provincial branch of the national organization, The Canadian Society of Hospital Pharmacists. The Branch represents more than 700 pharmacists practicing in Ontario hospitals. In conjunction with our National Council, the Society is actively involved in assisting pharmacists to understand and manage many of the issues hospitals are facing regarding Complementary and Alternative Medicine. http://www.cshp.ca/



The Michener Institute for Applied Health Sciences is highly regarded as the leading post-secondary educational institution for applied health sciences in Canada. TMI delivers a wide variety of diploma, degree/diploma, advanced diploma, and continuing professional education courses and programs for entry level and advanced health education and for health care practitioners. In recent years it has incorporated a focus on education and research in Complementary and Alternative Therapies, especially in Acupuncture and Herbal Medicine. Currently it offers a four-year diploma program in Acupuncture and two distance education programs in Chinese Herbal Medicine and Western Herbal Medicine. It has also established the Toronto Centre for Acupuncture on its premises and is in partnership with Mount Sinai Hospital's Wasser Pain Management Clinic for acupuncture treatment and research. TMI is also developing a research laboratory for the analysis of herbal products and is conducting clinical trials on herbal products. http://www.michener.ca/



The Friends of Alternative & Complementary Therapies Society is a non- profit organization, community organization that includes a broad range of consumers, physicians, nurses, alternative/complementary practitioners and academics. The Society now has over 300 members who subscribe to the goal of democratization of health information by promoting credible and practical information about different types of health practices across cultures. FACT is particularly interested in how alternative and complementary therapies can be integrated with mainstream medicine. The Society's purpose is education for its members and the public as well as the sharing of information with others. http://www.thefacts.org/
